Post and Lintel Altar
From Signs of Fortuna, Aries: the Present DayWhen we explored portals, thresholds, and transitions in Architect's Alcove, we discovered that some of humanity's oldest structures share a remarkably simple design: two supports with a span between them.
Builders have used this concept for thousands of years to create doorways, monuments, bridges, gathering places, and sacred spaces.
This small altar uses the same principle. Yet rather than creating a passage for traveling through, it creates a place for ideas to connect.
One way to think about this structure is as a bridge. Two supports create a stable span between them. In much the same way, we often seek to connect ideas, experiences, goals, or perspectives that may initially appear far apart. The altar becomes a symbolic expression of that connection.
Perhaps we'd like to think about creating a post and lintel altar. Before assembling the altar, we may take a moment to consider what we would like to encourage, strengthen, or better understand.
Perhaps we would like to:
♦ Build a bridge between two ideas
♦ Create greater understanding
♦ Strengthen a relationship
♦ Encourage a positive change
♦ Bring balance to a situation
♦ Support a personal goal
The intention does not need to be complicated. A short, descriptive phrase is enough.
This project requires only three objects:
♦ A support for the left side
♦ A support for the right side
♦ An object that can span the distance between them
