According to Indian Vastu Expert, Monica Bakshi, a traditionally trained Architecture school graduate and disciple of Vastu Shastra experts, "Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of harmony and prosperous living by eliminating negative and enhancing positive energies around us." Monica provided a short course, which I took as continuing education in health, safety and welfare for Architecture. The course has foundational information about how to evaluate and balance the architectural design of a home with Vastu. A side benefit is that I am now a certificated Vastu Consultant.
Vastu is influenced by two major scientific truths: The Earth has magnetic North and South poles and life on earth is influenced by these magnetic forces. The Earth rotates on an axis, which gives the illusion of sunrise and sunset, as well as creating centrifugal forces which also have a strong influence. Despite these truths, Vastu is considered to be a metaphysical "pseudoscience" by mainstream western culture. However; individuals and organizations, such as Maharishi Vastu Architecture, are researching the benefits of Vastu. A vastu consultation is an evaluation of the floor plan of a home and whether it matches up to an "auspicious" place to live, according to Vastu. Although I personally believe in the validity of Vastu's scientific basis, at this point in time we do not have complete proof that a Vastu design will actually result in harmony, prosperous living and creating positive energies in the home. For this reason, a Vastu consultation is considered a Metaphysical service for Architecture that does not necessarily require nor utilize architectural education, training nor experience and I cannot guarantee that a Vastu design will bring the hoped for results. About Reiki
Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui Sensei, who was born in 19th century Japan. Usui sought to understand the ultimate purpose in life and finally experienced enlightenment after much study and physical training: Usui's ultimate life purpose was "Anshin Rytsu Mei"; the attainment of a totally peaceful state of mind which allows freedom from worry and knowledge of what to do in life. He developed a “Method to Achieve Personal Perfection” based on Japanese Waka poetry, and his native Shinto and Buddhist religions, for spiritual development and a path to enlightenment achieved by doing daily energy exercises, self-healing, and receiving empowerments.
Perhaps because his brother was a doctor, Usui's talents were expressed in healing through "ki" (solar energy radiated from within) emanating from his hands, and he travelled throughout Japan and other countries, healing people and sharing his method. After Mikao Usui's death, his healing talents were described as being inspired by the miracles of Jesus and an expanded version of Usui's Reiki teachings and "attunements" were taught to people all over the world; a westernization of the original spiritual source of Usui's enlightenment.
Although Usui's talents were expressed as healing, his original intention was very simple: to allow people to understand what to do in life. Each of us has our own experiences and education. So, although I appreciate Usui's healing talents, my intention is to know what to do with my own influences, education and spiritual training. For me, this is harmonizing the arts of architecture with metaphysics. Manuela Fasoli's metaphysical system mirrors this harmony in combining Usui's method with a Vastu Purusha clearing technique.
